Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Does AIS use the free childcare policy system?
- A: Does AIS use the free childcare policy system? Yes, Aichi International School is certified as an unlicensed childcare facility that meets the standards set by the national and Nagoya city governments, so it is eligible to take advantage of the “free early childhood education and childcare” program.
- Q: Does my child need to speak English to join the Turtle Class (3-year-old class)?
- A: Not at all! Many children start in the Turtle Class with little or no English. Our warm, immersive English environment helps them feel comfortable and supported from day one. You’ll be amazed at how quickly their language skills grow—and how confident and happy they become using English in everyday situations.
- Q: Is there public transport available close to AIS?
- A: Yes, there is a bus stop just a five-minute walk from the school, and Hoshigaoka train station on the Higashiyama subway line is only a ten-minute walk. Some of our elementary school children also use bicycles to get to AIS.
- Q: Can AIS families easily transition to public or private Japanese schools after finishing at AIS?
- A: Yes, many of our elementary school families continue their education at local public schools after AIS. Before starting at AIS, these families coordinate with their local school to ensure their child remains part of the public school system while attending AIS. This arrangement makes it easy for students to transition smoothly back into a Japanese public or private school if needed, ensuring a seamless educational journey. If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to contact us at 052-788-2255 or admin@aisnagoya.net.
We’re Here for You: How to Stay Connected with AIS
- Q: How Can I Stay Connected with AIS and My Child’s Teachers?
- A: Families can contact the school during opening hours by phone at 052-788-2255 or by email at admin@aisnagoya.net.
Additionally, AIS uses an application called ClassDojo to communicate with families. ClassDojo is an easy-to-use tool that lets families stay updated on what’s happening at school and is also a great way to message teachers and staff if you have any questions or want to know more about your child’s learning.
At AIS, we believe that strong communication between families and the school is very important to give children the best opportunity to develop, grow, and enjoy their learning experience.
Application for Admission
- Q: When does the application period start?
- A: The application period for the 3-year-old preschool class (Turtle) and Grade 1 of elementary school for the next school year begins in September of the previous year. Applications for other grades are also possible at the same time. For Grade 1, a priority application period is available for students enrolled in our 5–6-year-old preschool class (Orca) before the general application period begins. Mid-year transfers are possible at any time during the school year, provided space is available in the class.
- Q: What is the eligible age for enrollment?
- A: Children are accepted for each kindergarten or elementary school grade according to their age as of April 2nd each year. The age for Turtle is three years old as of April 2nd.
School Visit
- Q: Can we have a tour of your school?
- A: Yes. We also encourage you to visit our school on Open House (Information Session) days scheduled throughout the year. Please see the “Open House” page for details. We are also happy to arrange individual visits.
